KAT ARAUJO, FOUNDER + CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Kat is a Dominican-American multidisciplinary creative and the founder of Afternoon Culture. She comes from a family of entrepreneurs who imparted a spirit of hustle and making the impossible happen. She grew up in a really creative household in NYC, and started shooting film when she was just 10 years old. She left NYC for Baltimore to study Art History & Political Science at Johns Hopkins University. During this time she also completed graphic design coursework at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Kat is a Teach For America Hawaii 2010 corps alum, and taught 3 years in the classroom. In 2013, she launched a multidisciplinary creative studio that focused on photography, design, and marketing. She left Hawaii in 2017 to be closer to family and to launch Afternoon Culture.
JENN JIRON, LEAD DESIGNER
Jenn is a Nicaraguan-American graphic designer & illustrator with over 10 years of experience. She is a DC native who attended George Mason University for a BFA in Graphic Design. Jenn has designed for clients big and small including the Washington Post, Cleveland Clinic, and Bubbles for Hair.
Her passions are print and stationary design, and she expresses them through Waves in Color, her paper goods and illustration project. Her discerned eye for details makes her an exceptional creative problem solver. She is an avid traveler and she splits her time between DC and Hawaii. Jenn lives in the water and has recently taken up surfing.
ALEX MCDOUGLE, STUDIO MANAGER
Alex is a Hawaii raised anthropologist, currently living in New York City. She graduated from the University of Hawaii with a BA in Anthropology in 2015. In the past 4 years, she has worked as a bio-archaeologist on World War 2 Repatriation Missions, a visiting researcher with the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and a Professional Patron of New Orleans Coffee Shops.
Alex is committed to making the world a better place in some small but sustainable ways. In the meantime, she is an avid supporter of poetry, good whiskey, and #blackgirlmagic. She is the administrative force behind Afternoon Culture, and brings strong organizational skills with a hint of Hawaiian chill to the agency's operations.
